Revolutionary. After graduating from college summa cum laude and working at several different finance-related jobs, Independent Senior National Sales Director Julia Burnett saw herself as a “corporate person.” Then a friend introduced her to the Mary Kay opportunity, and slowly she began to see that a Mary Kay business could be a more direct path to her dreams. When her father challenged her to “prove it,” she said, “Game on!”
That was the start of her Mary Kay journey and along the way she has learned that challenges are opportunities to grow and she has gained comfort in facing obstacles head-on. Julia believes that being honest, authentic and outwardly focused are essential qualities for success. What worked for her was to keep it real. “I’ve always strived to have a servant’s heart – to focus on others rather than on myself,” she says. "You never know what someone needs in their life and you may be the only person this week who truly cares about them.”
A mother with a growing family and mentor to a highly motivated team, Julia describes her own mentor, Independent Executive National Sales Director Pamela Waldrop Shaw, as a woman of substance and influence. Pam instilled in Julia the vision of what her family’s life could be, thanks to Mary Kay values and priorities. Julia continues to pass that vision along to those in her National Area as they work to revolutionize women’s lives through positive change.
“This business is 90 percent mental,” she says. “It’s about believing in yourself. I never went to my appointments with dollar signs in my eyes, I just prayed for favor, because I knew if they liked me, then everything else would happen."
