“I always made sure my dream was bigger than my obstacles.”

A Beautiful Fire. When introduced to the Mary Kay opportunity, Independent National Sales Director Lily Gauthreaux was holding down two jobs and working on her Master’s degree in Counseling. Yet, she knew she needed and wanted change and thought to herself, “What if this is my change?” After having a conversation with Independent Executive National Sales Director Lia Carta, who met Lily at a skin care class and recognized the things in her that set her apart, “I had no reason not to decide to pursue the opportunity,” Lily recalls.

Six years later, Lily debuted as an Independent National Sales Director. When asked what prepared her for her Mary Kay business, she shared the remarkable story of her childhood. Born in Russia, she and her older sister, Lydia, were the children of very successful entrepreneurs. “I watched them lose everything when we had to flee the country, when I was eight years old. Once in the United States, I watched my parents recreate their lives and their success. They taught me work ethic, perseverance and never to give up.” Lily’s resilience is something that has served her well in her Mary Kay journey. She says that she’s learned not to let outside circumstances affect her enough to make her give up. “I don’t get wrapped up in emotion about things...I just regroup.” People were skeptical about her new venture. Her friends were young and had no money. She had absolutely no time in her schedule for working her Mary Kay business; however, “I overcame the challenges by taking bite-sized pieces at a time and always making sure my dream was bigger than my obstacles,” Lily explains. “I always treated my Mary Kay business with respect, like a full-time job, even when I was working it three hours a week. Nothing would deter me from that commitment, because God cannot honor work that you do not do. I took personal responsibility when something did not come together. I invested in personal growth. I attended Company events and surrounded myself with people who were where I wanted to be. I never took advice from those I did not want to trade places with, or those who could not teach me how to live a dream,” she says.

Lily and her husband, Mike, enjoy life with their children, Lucas and Alice, whom Lily lovingly describes as “perfect kids.” As for her husband, Lily describes him as a huge part of her success. “He is the reason I am able to do what I do and if not for his incredible encouragement and support, I would have quit the first day!” She also describes herself as so much more confident now. Before Mary Kay, she says she was insecure and always needing validation. “Now, I’m confident about my skills as a wife, mother and businesswoman. Mary Kay has taught me to release the outcome and to work in blind faith.”

Of her mentor and friend, Independent Executive National Sales Director, Lia Carta, Lily says, “She inspired me to love people where they are, while seeing them in their potential. She inspired me to break belief barriers and still inspires me daily. Lily has learned not to attach her goals to other people, yet inspire them to make their goals happen. As an influencer with a platform in the “B.L.I.S.S. - Building Leaders in Strength and Servanthood” National Area, Lily sees her role as one to inspire, lift people up, and give them a chance to believe. Lily says, “I love my Mary Kay because it allows people to dream, believe and do things that they have been trained by the world are 'impossible.'”
