There’s No Place Like Home. Independent National Sales Director Emeritus Dorothy Boyd loves that her Mary Kay business gave her the chance to be the stay-at-home wife and mom she always wanted to be.
Prior to starting her Mary Kay business, Dorothy was a high school art teacher, and although she loved teaching, she yearned to be at home with her baby girl. “I loved the Mary Kay® products, but it was my mother-in-law’s belief in me that led me to the opportunity,” Dorothy shares. “I thought that if I didn’t try, I’d always wonder.” Two months later, she quit her teaching job completely and captured her vision of helping other women.
Dorothy believes that a Mary Kay business is a “walk of faith,” and it’s her responsibility as a leader to help others realize the balance of reality and hope. She says, “You don’t have to learn things the hard way. Just do your homework, trust the mentorship of those who’ve gone before you, and autograph your work with excellence.” Her mentor, Independent Senior Sales Director Mara Lane, provided her with the inspiration and tools necessary to build a stable foundation and along the way, Dorothy learned that she didn’t have to depend on anyone but herself. Her Mary Kay journey has brought her success beyond her wildest dreams and as an Independent National Sales Director, she was happy to guide her Area and others on the Mary Kay path, to their own goals and dreams.
She is married to Keith who is a great support to her and her business. They enjoy spending time together, watching movies, playing games, tasting Keith’s delicious cooking and visiting with their three adult children; Kerry, Brian and Kellen. “Home is where the heart is after all,” she says. “And thanks to my Mary Kay business, I’m able to spend the majority of my time there and I love each and every minute!”
