Joy in living. Tax accounting was truly exciting for Independent National Sales Director Joy L. Breen, who was more adept at ten-key entry than applying eyeliner. But when she was introduced to the flexibility and freedom offered by a Mary Kay business, she was willing to give it a chance.
After several years of working her business, Joy began envisioning great things for her unit. But suddenly, she found herself diagnosed with cervical and uterine cancer. Two years later, this non-smoker was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Joy survived the cancers, and the experience has given her a unique appreciation for life and her Mary Kay business. “I am grateful for the women who rallied around me when I couldn’t, breaking all belief barriers!” Joy, who learned perseverance from her father, says, “Work your business, so that if you couldn’t, a strong foundation will be in place.”
Looking back, special memories of Mary Kay Ash and time spent with Independent Senior National Sales Director Shannon Andrews are even more precious. “I will never forget when Mary Kay Ash looked me in the eye and said, ‘You can do it. I believe in you,’” Joy says.
And time shared with her husband, Kelly, and children – whether it’s scuba diving in Cozumel or riding their motorcycles – is priceless.
“My Mary Kay business has helped me create balance in my life,” Joy says. “I tell everyone to work today like it is the last day of your life.” Doing that keeps Joy passionate about her business and grateful for life.
