A Family Affair. Independent Senior National Sales Director Emeritus Sara Pedraza-Chacón started her Mary Kay business in 1981 in Houston, Texas. Her Mary Kay business truly became a family affair, as Sara shared the Mary Kay opportunity with her best friends, cousins, nieces and sisters-in-law, as well as her three daughters; Alba, Jennifer, and Sara. Even her son, Jorge, joked that he too would one day start his own Mary Kay business! Sara’s husband, Efrén, was always supportive along the way, as well as her mother, Valentina.
Having previously worked for a bank where dress code standards were high, Sara was immediately drawn to the elegance of the Mary Kay way. She embraced every aspect of the business with boundless enthusiasm; from learning and sharing the art of skin care, to the fun and excitement of Seminar, to using the knowledge she gained and passed on from her mentors. Sara believes that the Mary Kay opportunity enables women to grow and become more confident, ultimately leading them to success and giving their families something to be proud of. With her strong sense of family and her abiding faith, Sara’s goal as a National Sales Director always was to pass on the torch of the Mary Kay opportunity to a new generation of women!
Now, as an NSD Emeritus, Sara reflects, “I thank God, Mary Kay Ash, the corporate staff, my former area, and all the women who allowed me to touch their lives with words of encouragement.” She also counts it an honor to have worked and corresponded with Mary Kay Ash often in the formative years of her Mary Kay business. Sara’s strong sense of family and abiding faith continue to inform her plans and lifestyle. “I’m going to travel with my mother and plan her 100-year birthday party,” she says. “The leadership skills and lessons I carry with me into the next phase are ‘God first, family second and career third’, making goal posters, avoiding procrastination, getting up at 5 a.m. every day to give myself an entire extra day in my week, and most of all… choosing to be happy!”
