“My Mary Kay business gives me freedom to devote myself to my family, my church and fulfill my dreams.”

The next generation. “I always knew I would have a Mary Kay business; however, I thought, first I would be married and have children,” says Independent National Sales Director Emeritus Terri Schafer. “But, one day when I was 19 years-old, single, with less than $10, and payday two weeks away, my Mary Kay journey began.”

Terri watched her mother, Independent Senior National Sales Director Emeritus Shirley Oppenheimer, model the advantages of the Mary Kay opportunity. “My mother taught me that I could have it all – family first and a business I love.” Terri and her brother, Chris, also saw their parents achieve goals, often, against tremendous obstacles. “Tie a knot and hang on, because this shall pass, they would say.”

Terri’s best Mary Kay Ash memory occurred when she was seven. “Mary Kay asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. ‘I am going to be a National Sales Director,’ I answered, and she said, ‘Somehow, I know you will.’”

Terri and her husband love spending time with their family. “My Mary Kay business gave me freedom to devote myself to my family, my church and fulfill my dreams.”

Terri believes that one person can make a difference, affecting generations of a family. “Independent Senior National Sales Director Emeritus Johnnette Shealy did this when she offered the Mary Kay opportunity to my mother, which changed the course of our lives.”

“My favorite moments in my Mary Kay business happened when I help someone find the discipline to consistently work their business and then see them achieve more than they ever believed for themselves and their families.” Look where that discipline has taken Terri!
